The Assessment process that we use to diagnose and treat your headache/migraine condition is based upon research by Dean Watson of the Watson Headache® Institute.
The basis of our assessment and treatment is to (temporarily) reproduce your headache symptoms by gently pushing on the joints of your neck – there is no cracking of the joints and it is very safe. This reproduction and more importantly lessening of the symptoms, tells us that the headache is referred from this area. In the first consultation with us we will be able to tell you whether your neck is involved and whether this may be an effective form of treatment for your head pain.
The diagnostic accuracy of the Watson Headache® Approach can confirm if disorders in the upper neck are responsible for your headache or migraine and determine the exact nature of the disorder and furthermore, specifically which of the top 3 spinal joints are involved.
Not only can we tell you in the first session whether this form of treatment may be successful for you, but it gives us the specific area to treat rather than just a general idea. This allows for a better diagnosis, a more specific treatment area and therefore a better and quicker outcome. Before assessing your neck at the Gold Coast Headache Clinic, our physiotherapists conduct a full and thorough questioning process which gives us an idea as to what your “triggers” are and allows us to challenge you with these once we see a good improvement of your symptoms.
